A bit of history and our current projects

Picture
  • The original Aptos branch library was founded in 1944 on Trout Gulch Road.
  • In October 1964 the library moved to a more spacious location at the Rancho del Mar shopping center.
  • By 1970, the Aptos branch was the fastest growing branch in the library system, and it had outgrown its space at the shopping center.
  • The current site was chosen in July of 1972.
  • The new Aptos branch was dedicated on Saturday, June 28, 1975.
  • The Aptos branch closed on Saturday, June 12, 2021 to make way for the new Aptos Library.

Water-wise garden

Over a period of years we created a showcase sustainable landscape and water-saving garden in front of the library.
In Fall 2020 we dismantled our garden
in preparation for the construction

of the new Aptos Library.

Even though our water-wise garden is now a bit of history, you may enjoy learning about it.
