- Presenters, Sharon Ferguson and Jo-Neal Graves are local artists and art educators who regularly participate in the Open Studios Art Tour produced by Arts Council Santa Cruz County.
- On February 11, 2023 this OCR event took place at the Live Oak Grange in Santa Cruz.
- Participants created an “extended” pencil drawing using a photo of the Dust Bowl era to which a six-word memoir was added for deeper meaning.
- Sharon and Jo-Neal provided background information, drawing pointers, memoir development, and lots of encouragement.
The selected book for this season of OCR is Mary Coin by Marisa Silver.

Sharon Ferguson shared a copy of a newspaper article by Geoffrey Dunn, published January 19, 1995 by Metro Santa Clara Valley.
It included these images of Florence Owens Thompson and her children. In the picture at right: Katherine McIntosh (the girl with her head down in Migrant Mother); Troy Owens and Norma Rydlewski, the infant in her mother's arms. |
