“A vivid portrayal of artistic life during the Red Scare and the challenges women screenwriters faced in the era’s entertainment industry. It is also a witty and harrowing tale of intrigue, friendship and romance. Stratford imbues the text with lively energy and a wry voice…. Red Letter Days is a timeless and relevant story about the dangers of bias, conformity and groupthink.” -- BookTrib

In early Spring 2022 the selected book, and themes in the book, will be highlighted in a series of special events.

We are looking forward to a calendar of events that will allow participants to delve into many themes from this book.

Events will likely take place during the month February 2022.  All events will be free and open to the public.

Our events aim to create a shared experience that will increase appreciation for our community libraries and for our local bookstores; foster pride in the varied experiences that our area offers; and the enrichment –– culturally, intellectually, and emotionally –– that comes from the joy of reading!
Our Community Reads

"It is so important to support literacy and critical thinking, especially in these current times.  Thank you all for your hard, important work."
Jerry Solomon, Ph.D., Panelist, HIV/AIDS in the 80's

"This was a great series of events that really showed how reading is not a static, solitary thing but a rich, engaging, exploration that opens eyes and minds and ears. The dialogue and discussion were the best part."
Stephen Palumbi, Co-author, Death & Life of Monterey Bay.

"I am honored to have been a part of the Our Communities Read program! What a fantastic model, to use books to bring people together and take meaningful action. In the case of our book, action towards the collective goal of protecting the places we love."
Carolyn Sotka, Co-author, Death & Life of Monterey Bay.
